1.              Call to order

Mayor Keith Wilson called the meeting to order at 12:20pm.

2.              Approval of Agenda

Add item 6.8 Northern Lights Library.

6.0      Business Arising

6.1           MGA

6.1.1      Appointing Councillor to IPC

Council requested more information regarding the appointments.  Bring forward to next meeting.

6.1.2      BAILS Watershed Plan

Mike Schouten presented the BAILS Watershed Plan. The Government has suggested that BAILS collaborate with the summer villages. It was agreed that this be discussed at the next BAILS meeting to be held August 24th, and then bring forward to the September 7th Summer Villages meeting.

6.2           Annual Open House

There were 15 residents in attendance.  There were two presenters – Steve Hamilton on Firesmart.  Assessment of properties for fires is available to residents.  If residents wish to have their property assessed please email the Village office. Steve demonstrated a sprinkler system which can be installed on buildings, which is available for purchase from the Fire Dept.

Conrad Ozero spoke about living with wildlife.  The importance of keeping garbage and bird feeders unavailable to animals.

6.3           Athabasca Swimming Pool

Mike Schouten and Linda Cargill attended the Athabasca County meeting on June 27th and gave a $15,000 donation on behalf of the Summer Village.

6.4           Roads, Policing Signs

Keith Wilson spoke with David Gray and is waiting a quote.  Policing signs will be placed at each entrance to the Summer Village.

6.5           Clearing Trees on Reserves

Clearing of trees on reserves was discussed.

6.6           National Drowning Week Proclamation

MOTION:            That the Summer Village of West Baptiste support the National Drowning Prevention Week campaign and proclaims July 21 – 27 as National Drowning Prevention Week.

There were no reports.

 

6.8           Northern Lights Library

Council instructed the Administrator to request a financial statement and information who is on the Board of Directors. Bring forward to next Council meeting.
